How to use progress reports
See what students practise, where they struggle, and how to help. Pick the guide that fits you.
Get your students on accounts
Progress is recorded for students who play while signed in to their own account. Students without an account still play, but nothing is saved for them.
- Open your class and go to the Students tab.
- Turn on joining with a code and show the code to your class.
- Each student signs in, joins with the code and picks their name. You approve every request.
A student whose name is linked to an account shows numbers on the Progress tab. Names without an account show "No account linked".
What is tracked
Every signed-in play adds to time practised, practice rounds and scores. These seven activities also record each word or sentence, so the site can show which ones are missed:
- Word Scramble
- Fill the Gap
- Sentence Builder
- Reading Quiz
- Flashcards
- Balloon Hangman
- Picture Quiz
Other games report score and time only. Live games, team play and two-player rounds are not tracked.
The class Progress tab
- Choose Last 7, 30 or 90 days at the top.
- The table shows time practised, rounds, answers right and when each student was last active. A red "last active" means two weeks or more without practice.
- Press Open on a student to see their full page: a minutes chart, every activity, words to practise, badges and certificates.
- Words several students miss lists the words that are hard for the whole class. Use it to choose what to teach next.
Connect parents
Parents follow their own child with a one-time code. Two ways to give it to them:
- On the Progress tab press Print take-home slips for parents. Cut the slips along the dotted lines and send one home with each student. Each slip has a QR code and a typed code, and lasts 14 days.
- Or open a student's progress page, press Make a code for a parent and send the QR code or link.
The parent scans the code, signs in or signs up, and taps Yes, follow. Nothing is shared until they confirm. A code works once. Parents and students can remove a link at any time.
E-mail updates to parents
On the Progress tab, open E-mail progress updates to parents.
- Tick Send these e-mails automatically.
- Choose Every week and a weekday, Every month and a day, or Once on a date (for example the end of term).
- Choose whether to include words to practise, and whether to skip students who did not practise.
- Press Save. The panel shows when the next e-mail goes out and how many parents will receive it.
- Each parent gets one e-mail per class that covers all their children in it, in their own language, signed with the names of the class teachers.
- Use my own wording lets you write the message yourself. Your text is sent exactly as you type it and is not translated. You can use {parent}, {children}, {class}, {teachers} and {site} in it.
- Press Send me a sample to see exactly what parents will get. Send now sends to all parents straight away.
- Parents can switch the e-mails off for each child.
Automatic sending needs the site owner to set up the scheduled job described in Admin, Email. Until then, use Send now.
Reports and practice sheets
- Print report on a student's page makes a one-page report with a chart, activities, words to practise and tips. In the print window choose "Save as PDF" to keep it as a PDF file.
- Practice sheets turns the missed words into worksheets: look-cover-write-check, unscramble, missing letters, word search and copy lines, with an answer key. Tick the words you want first.
- Make a class practice sheet (Progress tab) builds one sheet from the words several students miss.
Free and Pro
